Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100: read noise comparison

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5DxO

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 was measured at 7 ISO settings from ISO 80 to ISO 3200. Values were derived by Bill Claff from DxOMark lab data.

At base ISO (80) read noise is 2.45 DN. From ISO 1600 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 was measured at 26 ISO settings from ISO 80 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (125) read noise is 0.93 DN, or 3.1 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 1000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 13,064 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 420.
