Sony RX100 V vs Sony RX100 VI: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Sony RX100 V 3.7 e⁻ (ISO 125), Sony RX100 VI 3.2 e⁻ (ISO 125).

Sony RX100 V

The Sony RX100 V (DSC-RX100M5) was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 80 to ISO 12800. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (125) read noise is 3.97 DN, or 3.7 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 1250 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 5000 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 14,558 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 120.

Sony RX100 VI

The Sony RX100 VI (DSC-RX100M6) was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 80 to ISO 12800. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (125) read noise is 4.11 DN, or 3.2 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 1000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 3200 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 11,975 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 100.
