Samsung NX2000 vs Samsung NX500: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Samsung NX2000 2.8 e⁻ (ISO 100), Samsung NX500 3.4 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Samsung NX2000

The Samsung NX2000 was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 0.26 DN, or 2.8 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 100 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 43,747 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 1070.

Samsung NX500

The Samsung NX500 was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 1.78 DN, or 3.4 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 2000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 31,154 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 190.
