Samsung NX10 vs Samsung NX1000: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Samsung NX10 22 e⁻ (ISO 100), Samsung NX1000 1.3 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Samsung NX10

The Samsung NX10 was measured at 6 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 3200. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 3.32 DN, or 22 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 400 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 27,109 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 660.

Samsung NX1000

The Samsung NX1000 was measured at 19 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 6400. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 0.21 DN, or 1.3 electrons at the sensor. Read noise keeps falling across the measured range, so the camera isn't fully ISO-invariant there. Settings above ISO 3200 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 24,086 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 590.
