Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1: read noise comparison

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 1.04 DN, or 6.8 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 2000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 6400 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 25,930 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 650.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1DxO

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 was measured at 8 ISO settings from ISO 160 to ISO 12800. Values were derived by Bill Claff from DxOMark lab data.

At base ISO (160) read noise is 3.66 DN. From ISO 6400 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise.
