Olympus PEN E-PL7 vs Olympus PEN E-PM2: read noise comparison

Olympus PEN E-PL7

The Olympus PEN E-PL7 was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 0.97 DN, or 6.1 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 800 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 5000 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 23,907 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 1250.

Olympus PEN E-PM2DxO

The Olympus PEN E-PM2 was measured at 8 ISO settings from ISO 200 to ISO 25600. Values were derived by Bill Claff from DxOMark lab data.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 1.14 DN. From ISO 6400 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise.
