Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II vs Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II 6.3 e⁻ (ISO 200), Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV 3.9 e⁻ (ISO 200).

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 0.97 DN, or 6.3 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 800 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 24,773 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 1290.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 0.86 DN, or 3.9 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 2000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 17,603 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 920.
