Olympus E-620 vs Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II: read noise comparison

Olympus E-620DxO

The Olympus E-620 was measured at 5 ISO settings from ISO 200 to ISO 3200. Values were derived by Bill Claff from DxOMark lab data.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 3.97 DN. From ISO 800 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II was measured at 23 ISO settings from ISO 64 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 0.86 DN, or 7.2 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 3200 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 31,816 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 1660.
