Nikon D5600 vs Nikon D60: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Nikon D5600 3.1 e⁻ (ISO 100), Nikon D60 14.8 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Nikon D5600

The Nikon D5600 was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 1.47 DN, or 3.1 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 500 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 2500 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 32,718 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 210.

Nikon D60

The Nikon D60 was measured at 6 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 3200. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 2.13 DN, or 14.8 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 200 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 1600 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 28,451 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 700.
