FujiFilm X30 vs FujiFilm X70: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: FujiFilm X30 2.7 e⁻ (ISO 100), FujiFilm X70 2.7 e⁻ (ISO 200).

FujiFilm X30

The FujiFilm X30 was measured at 14 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 3200. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 1.06 DN, or 2.7 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 400 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 9,872 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 260.

FujiFilm X70

The FujiFilm X70 was measured at 16 ISO settings from ISO 200 to ISO 6400. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 1.47 DN, or 2.7 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 500 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 2000 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 27,744 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 360.
