FujiFilm X-E5 vs FujiFilm X-H1: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: FujiFilm X-E5 2.5 e⁻ (ISO 125), FujiFilm X-H1 3.8 e⁻ (ISO 200).

Dual gain: FujiFilm X-E5 none, FujiFilm X-H1 ISO 800.

FujiFilm X-E5

The FujiFilm X-E5 was measured at 26 ISO settings from ISO 64 to ISO 51200. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (125) read noise is 1.67 DN, or 2.5 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 1250 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 22,879 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 190.

FujiFilm X-H1

The FujiFilm X-H1 was measured at 24 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 51200. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 2.13 DN, or 3.8 electrons at the sensor. A second gain (dual gain) kicks in at ISO 800, cutting input-referred read noise by about 1.2 stop. From ISO 2500 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 25600 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 27,531 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 360.
