FujiFilm GFX 50S II vs FujiFilm X-A1: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: FujiFilm GFX 50S II 2.9 e⁻ (ISO 100), FujiFilm X-A1 5.4 e⁻ (ISO 200).

FujiFilm GFX 50S II

The FujiFilm GFX 50S II was measured at 26 ISO settings from ISO 50 to ISO 102400. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 1.19 DN, or 2.9 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 500 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 10000 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 39,910 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 240.

FujiFilm X-A1

The FujiFilm X-A1 was measured at 16 ISO settings from ISO 200 to ISO 6400. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (200) read noise is 0.71 DN, or 5.4 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 2000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 2500 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 29,599 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 1550.
