Canon EOS M50 Mark II vs Canon EOS M6 Mark II: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Canon EOS M50 Mark II 5.1 e⁻ (ISO 100), Canon EOS M6 Mark II 6.1 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Canon EOS M50 Mark IITwin

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. This model has no measurement of its own; the Canon EOS M50, which uses the same sensor, is shown.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 2.89 DN, or 5.1 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 5000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 28,242 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 180.

Canon EOS M6 Mark II

The Canon EOS M6 Mark II was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 3.29 DN, or 6.1 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 5000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 29,216 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 180.
