Canon EOS M vs Canon EOS M100: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Canon EOS M 13.9 e⁻ (ISO 100), Canon EOS M100 5.9 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Canon EOS M

The Canon EOS M was measured at 9 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 8.00 DN, or 13.9 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 3200 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Settings above ISO 12800 don't change analog gain (digital push). Full well at base ISO is about 24,998 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 170.

Canon EOS M100

The Canon EOS M100 was measured at 25 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 25600. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 3.16 DN, or 5.9 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 8000 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 29,515 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 190.
