Canon EOS 1100D vs Canon EOS 1200D: read noise comparison

Input-referred read noise at base ISO: Canon EOS 1100D 15.9 e⁻ (ISO 100), Canon EOS 1200D 12.5 e⁻ (ISO 100).

Canon EOS 1100D

The Canon EOS 1100D was measured at 7 ISO settings from ISO 100 to ISO 6400. Values are Bill Claff's (Photons to Photos) direct measurements from raw files.

At base ISO (100) read noise is 7.01 DN, or 15.9 electrons at the sensor. From ISO 3200 up the camera is effectively ISO-invariant: raising ISO further doesn't meaningfully lower shadow noise. Full well at base ISO is about 32,486 electrons; unity gain is around ISO 230.
